Today felt like my first real day as a reservationist. I’ve been training in the office every couple of days for the last two weeks, but today I was really left to myself. (I had another reservationist at the desk next to mine to help me along. I wasn’t actually left to myself.) For the most part, I made reservations for people on my own. I feel pretty good about it.

The hardest part of the job is sitting there when the phone isn’t ringing. It’s kind of a strange feeling for me to have, but when I’m there I want to be working. I want to be filing something or organizing things. I want to be helping my coworkers and the guests. I like feeling involved there.

My favorite part of being the office is the change. I’m very glad I was asked to train as a reservationist. They saw that I was willing to do my best and that I wanted to learn a new section of the restaurant and they wanted me to learn it. If I can do both of these jobs well, it’s unlikely it will go unnoticed.

I understand that my position is easily filled and what I do “isn’t rocket science”, but I would like to think that I can’t be replaced. I truly love where I work.
